Thompsons Lake
Monday, Nov. 10, was my day for writing news and going to the bank. Brandon came and had dinner with me and we planned to spend Veteran’s Day together.
On Tuesday, Nov. 11, Brandon and Iain picked me up at 8:30 a.m. We picked up Samson and Nichole in Schoharie and then headed for the Veteran’s Day Parade in Albany.
The parade was lining up at Burger King on Central Avenue. Brandon parked the car and asked me if I wanted him to set up the lawn chair he brought for me. I said I’d rather sit in the car.
The four of them ran back and joined the ranks of the parade. The children passed out flags, yellow ribbons, and red, white, and blue ribbons. Brandon said they would even run up on porches where they saw people. They enjoyed every minute of it and Brandon got many compliments on their behavior.
Their patriotism is commendable. We felt good about being together and honoring veterans.
I spent Wednesday, Nov. 12, thinking about gifts to give for Christmas. Then at 3:30 p.m. I went with Brandon on his dinner visit with Samson and Nichole.
It was Nichole’s turn to choose where we eat dinner and she chose Arby’s. Then we played Memory and Skipbo, as they had completed their homework before being dropped off.
Thursday, Nov. 13, was an errand day for me. I had to pick up light bulbs at Wolberg’s. Since I kept an old wagon wheel light in my kitchen, I now have to find narrow bulbs for it because the replacement chimneys I bought are narrower.
I also went to CVS for a prescription and to Price Chopper for groceries.
On Friday, Nov. 14, I woke up feeling sick with an upset stomach and cold chills. I think it may have been a stomach virus.
Tommy Ryan, one of Danny’s co-workers came up and visited me in the afternoon and that cheered me up.
On Saturday, Nov. 15, I still didn’t feel better and I felt melancholy. It would have been Danny’s 52nd birthday.
Many people stopped in during the day to take a look at the nine-point buck Jenn Smith hit with her car on Thursday evening. She said she only hit him in the rear legs and broke his ankles, but the sheriff had to put him down.
They got a tag and Brandon wants the meat.
Marcia and Kyra came for breakfast. After that Marcia took Kyra, Samson, Nichole, and Iain roller skating at Rollerama.
Later Jenn met them at Golden Corral for dinner. I made some venison goulash and ate with Brandon and Tommy Ryan in the garage after they finished their day of hunting.
On Sunday, Nov. 16, I went to church and then I made the fruit salad that Nichole loves.
Brandon grew squash this year and I baked some in the oven. I also did barbecued chicken in the oven that Nichole helped me marinate overnight and also made mashed potatoes and gravy. We enjoyed cookies that Jenn baked with help from Samson, Nichole, and Iain.
My grandson, Miles Pangburn, stopped in on Saturday, and again on Sunday to discuss hunting with Brandon, Tommy Ryan, Jared Martin, and Paul Ginter.
It was a good week and ended up like the old days with hunters gathering in the garage to swap stories.
