Tech Valley High holds sessions for prospective students

Tech Valley High School will be offering two additional information sessions for students interested in enrolling as ninth-graders in the fall. Eighth-graders must attend an information session with a guardian in order to apply to the school.

The school saw a record number of students attend the Feb. 5 session and is holding another two sessions:

— Tuesday, Feb. 24, at Catskill Middle School, 345 West Main Street, Catskill, from 6 to 7:30 p.m.; and

— Monday, March 2, at Tech Valley High School, 246 Tricentennial Drive, Albany, from 6 to 7:30 p.m.

The application deadline has been extended for students who attend those information sessions to Friday, March 20.

Tech Valley High School is a public high school that provides a project-based approach to learning. That means students learn in hands-on projects based in real-world applications of common core subjects.

The school was established in 2007 through the collaboration of Questar III and Capital Region BOCES and is open to all students in those BOCES’s component school districts at no cost to parents. The school is located on the campus of the Colleges of Nanoscale Science and Engineering at SUNY Polytechnic Institute

The high school is open to all students of the 46 component school districts within Questar III and Capital Region BOCES with the support of their home districts. Students interested in submitting an application should coordinate with the guidance counselor in their home district on completing the application.

Tech Valley hosts approximately 140 students in grades nine through 12. Historically it has a 99-percent graduation rate, a 100-percent college acceptance rate, and a 93-percent college attendance rate. Nearly 50 percent of the school’s graduates pursue degrees in science technology, engineering, and math, compared to 9 percent nationwide.
