Local vineyard to host area’s first wellness festival, benefitting the Red Cross

Cameron Shayne is the headliner at the Altamont Vineyard & Winery’s inaugural wellness festival, held this Saturday, June 7.

ALTAMONT — Altamont Vineyard & Winery is holding the Capital Region’s first outdoor wellness festival on Saturday, June 7, from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. at its vineyard.

The event will include a 5K trail run, cooking classes, licensed massage therapists, local artisans, food vendors, live music, organic product lines, yoga classes, a pressed-juice competition, and wine tastings. Vendors include Rumors Salon & Spa, Honest Weight Food Co-op, Zen Fusion Lounge, Fallon Pharmacy, and Bodywork Professionals.

Celebrity yoga instructor Cameron Shayne is the festival’s headlining attraction. Shayne’s students include actors Jennifer Aniston and Courtney Cox, according to a release from the festival.

Shayne is the founder of Budokon University; its website says, “Budokon provides a specific life coaching method by teaching us to identify the fears of survival residing in our animal natures and transcend those fears towards our evolved self.” The university’s motto is, “The way we do anything, is the way we do everything.”

Festival founder Franca DiCrescenzo created the event to focus on health and wellness. “Partnering with the American Red Cross makes it even more purposeful,” she stated in a release from the event.

Thomas Lindberg, chief program officer for the American Red Cross of Northeastern New York, said in the release, “Studies have been done on how yoga has a direct effect on stress, both psychologically and physically. It can help with many anxiety issues, including post-traumatic stress disorder, and helps families participate in a healthy activity together.

“This event is a nice tie-in through yoga with what we are doing in our reconnection workshops, and we are very appreciative to the winery for including us.”

Tickets purchased in advance are $40. A portion of VINYOGA’s proceeds benefit the American Red Cross of Northeastern New York SAF (Service to the Armed Forces) Program.
