Social services and animal welfare authorities were called in to help after an anonymous tip lead the Albany County Sheriff's Department to investigate a local home.

NEW SCOTLAND — A drunk driver caused a head-on crash Saturday before striking a pole in Feura Bush, police say; the driver nearly collided with a police car as he recklessly passed cars near the Bethlehem athletic compound on Route 32.

Albany County Legislator Herbert W. Reilly, running on the Independent Party line, will face Bethlehem Councilman William Reinhardt, who beat him in the Democratic primary, on Nov. 3. Challenging them is newcomer Republican Andrew Holland.

Albany County Legislator and New Scotland Democratic Party Chairman Michael Mackey is being challenged by New Scotland Republican Chairman Timothy Stanton to represent district 38.

The new building will incorporate features like a vegetative roof and the use of gray water systems.

New Scotland resident and Watervliet police officer Joshua Spratt, 35, pleaded guilty to one count of third-degree criminal sexual act, a felony, last week, in satisfaction of charges last July of several criminal sexual acts, and a charge of official misconduct, according to a statement from the Albany County District Attorney’s office.
