NEW SCOTLAND — Neighbors came out in force Tuesday to protest, or support, an event venue proposed by former planning board member Cynthia Elliott for her property in Feura Bush.

An option to buy an acre of land across the street from an historic barn and next to the county's rail trail "is a critical step in allowing this project to go forward,” said Mark King of the Mohawk Hudson Land Conservancy.

Guilderland, Bethlehem, and New Scotland have seen a rash of break-ins during the last four weeks, and, in the village of Voorheesville, there have been two burglaries and one attempted burglary of residential homes.

Residents here worked to preserve their history and their natural surroundings this year, while also preparing for future expansion and addressing current needs.

The not-for-profit group Scenic Hudson, aligned with the Hudson Valley Smart Energy Coalition, has opposed a transmission line upgrade projected to move massive amounts of power across the state to the New York City area, but the state's Public Service Commission announced that plans will continue and that work on the lines will reduce or eliminate adverse environmental, landowner, and economic impacts. 

The family of Brian Lainhart, owner of Awesome Automotive for 20 years, is asking for help as Lainhart's business and home face foreclosure after he cared for his ailing wife, Miriam Fiato, for three years.

The school board held a public hearing about using up to $20,000 to replace a failed water heater in the elementary school. “It’s a critical need,” said school Superintendent Brian Hunt. 

Karen Conroy, the director of curriculum at Voorheesville, hopes the recent reforms will help teachers feel more supported.

Bethlehem’s new commissioner of public works, George Kansas, said that New Scotland and Bethlehem do not have a formal agreement for water, but merely “randomly pieced together” contracts.
