Rensselaerville veterans’ memorial garden to break ground this weekend
By Zach Simeone
RENSSELAERVILLE After months of fund-raising, the town’s Veterans of Foreign Wars committee will present its new memorial garden outside of Town Hall this weekend.
“There was a memorial there,” said Vietnam War veteran James Glorioso, who chaired the committee in those months, “but it was a small one, and it was all overgrown.”
The groundbreaking ceremony will take place this Saturday, Feb. 25, at 11 a.m. The garden surrounds the base of the flagpole at Town Hall.
The committee has received close to 50 donations, Glorioso said, and is still accepting donations for the project. For $30, a donor may request to have a 6-by-9-inch stone engraved with a veteran’s name, which will be placed in the garden.
Donation forms are available at Town Hall.
