MOPS lets mothers share
By Anne Hayden
GUILDERLAND A group at Christ’s Church in Guilderland is striving to connect mothers.
Mothers of Pre-Schoolers, a group for mothers with children ages birth to 5 years years, is a place for parents to compare experiences, according to Tahisha Richards, the organizer.
“We found there was a need for women who wanted to be connected to others to compare experiences, and realize what they’re going through is normal, and they are not crazy,” Richards said. She is a mother of three, with a fourth child on the way.
The not-for-profit group, which will have a kick-off meeting at the church on Sept. 15, will continue to meet every first Wednesday of the month from October to June, from 9:15 to 11:15 a.m. Attendees do not have to members of Christ’s Church.
Richards said there will be group speakers, practical tips, activities, and refreshments. Free child care, by screened caregivers, will be provided.
As an example of a typical group speaker, Richards said this month a member of the Guilderland Police Department will address child safety at the MOPS meeting.
“It is just a nice way for mothers to sit down, have some coffee, interact with other adults, and understand that no one is going through this alone,” said Richards.
