Dutch netters lost in section final

GUILDERLAND — After winning a close Section II Class AA semifinal match, the Guilderland boys’ tennis team dropped a close championship match.

The Dutchmen beat Shenendehowa, 5-4, in the semifinals last Tuesday to earn their fifth straight trip to the sectional finals. However, the Dutchmen lost to Niskayuna, 5-4, in the title match.

Niskayuna’s top two singles players continued to dominate, but the Dutch did get wins from Sam Dordick at number-three singles and Mookie Farina at the number-five singles slot.

The Dutch doubles teams of Sam Kosinski and Joel Malarba won their match in three sets and the number-three doubles team of Chris Levy and Justin Rucci won their match in straight sets.

Joey Milstein, Dylan Scott, Ben Ellenbogen, and Alex Bush lost their singles matches. The team of Austin Malerba and Karl Barber lost their doubles match.

Milstein and Bush formed a doubles team that qualified for the state tournament in Flushing Meadows in Queens last week. They were eliminated in the second round by a team from Irondequoit High School from Rochester.
