I learn from Enterprise columnists every week

To the Editor:
One of the things I've always liked about The Enterprise are the columnists.

I get a kick out of Judy Petrosillo's ability to work a theme into every paragraph of the Berne Library notice — which I read, even though I don't live in Berne. I enjoy the Old Men of the Mountain report, although I am not a gent nor do I live on the Hill.

I learn something from these folks every week. But the columns seem to be gradually disappearing. I can understand that writers like Mrs. Ricketts might want to retire, but perhaps there are younger people who would be interested to take their place. In particular, I hope to see Mrs. Caruso's column back again soon.

Editor’s note: At one time, writing in The Enterprise, as our recent 120-year history retrospective showed, was made up entirely of community correspondents. Now we have a paid staff of reporters to cover local news.

We value our columnists and publish about a dozen columns every week. Rosemary Caruso, who spends the cold months in Florida, is writing for us once a month. If we had more ads and more readers, we’d be able to afford more pages for the many worthwhile submissions we get week in and week out. We surveyed our readers to learn what mattered most to them.

We do the best we can with what we have to reflect the broad interests of our community.
