Nick has been lighting the world around him

To the Editor:

Each election is important. Who we elect is even more important; that is why I am urging the voters of the 31st District of the Albany County Legislature to elect Nick Viscio to be their representative.

When I first met Nick, as one of his 12th-grade teachers in Guilderland High School, I knew he was someone special. In his last year of high school, he chose to apply to a new alternative school program that was just starting.

It required that students be independent and self-motivated. Nick was definitely that. One of his projects that he completed was a video of his hobby of cave exploring where he had to develop his own lighting system to light the cave he explored.

Ever since then, Nick has been lighting the world around him by his dedication and service to the community. In Guilderland, Nick became the director of media services for the school district creating a viable TV studio and closed circuit TV network.

This center became a valuable learning center for students and a remarkable resource for teachers. In the town of Guilderland, he was responsible for the cable broadcasting of town meetings, shining light on open government.

In the town of Knox, Nick has been involved in town government for many years. When I was the superintendent of schools for Berne-Knox-Westerlo Central Schools, I was freely given advice by Nick when I asked him questions on media.

Also we both served on the Cable Advisory Committee where Nick worked tirelessly to bring cable TV to the Hilltowns of the county. Everyone who knows Nick knows that he is a creative problem-solver. He is a dedicated community member, family man, and an asset to his church.

On Tuesday, Nov. 3, elect Nick Viscio, and know that the concerns of our district will be brought to light by him in the county government.
