Colonie Country Club celebrates a half-century

To the Editor:

On April 10, 1965, a new building opened its doors for the first time. This gem and award-winning building was the Colonie Country Club. It is now 2015 and the club is celebrating the 60th anniversary of the opening.

My interest in this occasion is that I was the official to open this beautiful structure on that day.

My name is Sandy Berkman, general manager of the Colonie Country Club. I came to work for the club on Jan. 1, 1965 to oversee the finishing touches of the club when Felthousen planted the trees along the driveway to the club. They were barely two feet tall and now you have to strain your neck looking up at them, they are that tall.

I left the club on Jan. 1, 1980 to pursue other activities and go back in business for myself after a 14-year wonderful experience as general manager of the club.

I wish the new owners much success for the next 50 years.
