Join us for the annual J. Wyatt Spencer Memorial Golf Tournament

To the Editor:

I am writing to you today in my capacity as the chair of the J. Wyatt Spencer Memorial Scholarship Fund and to invite your readership to join us for our annual golf tournament. This year is a pivotal and exciting year for us.

We have thus far been able to award a total of $10,000 to four deserving Berne-Knox-Westerlo graduates who have gone on to higher education, and we are thrilled to be reaching the milestone of our Fifth Annual Golf Tournament to raise funds for that scholarship account!

This year, our tournament will be held on Oct. 3 at Colonie Golf & Country Club in Voorheesville. This spectacular venue has more amenities for golfers than one can imagine, not to mention a bucolic setting with a fabulous restaurant and ballroom for our banquet.

All levels of golfers are welcome. Our golfers range from beginners to scratch, or, if you don’t have the time or inclination to golf, we’d love folks to join us for our “not-your-average” sports banquet and incredible drawings after golf! The cost is just $125 per golfer (four-person scramble and includes 18 holes, cart, lunch, specialty hole admission and dinner) and $40 for dinner-only guests.

Our “have to be seen to be believed” drawings this year include a Tom Watson-signed Masters’ Tournament Pin Flag, daily ground passes for two to the 2016 Quicken Loans National PGA Tournament in Bethesda, Maryland, a Derek Jeter-signed photo, Hall-of-Famer Jack Youngblood-signed football, and a vacation for four for one week in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.

Not to mention some of the most incredible “themed baskets” you’ll ever bid on, great foursomes of golf to many area courses, a 50/50 drawing, and the list goes on. You name it, we are probably having a drawing for it!

Also, we are looking for sponsors (great advertising!), and donors.  For $100, we will make a placard of business or organization logos and place them at one of the 18 holes on the course. We also will gratefully accept any items, gift certificates, and services donated for our basket drawing and monetary donations from interested individuals, businesses, and organizations.

We have always been amazed at, humbled by, and grateful for the outpouring of support that the communities The Enterprise reaches have shown us. Help us to carry on again this year and consider partnering with us in whatever capacity you can. Numbers have to be turned into the Colonie Country Club by Sept. 25, so don’t delay if you’d like to join us!

See our ad and registration form in this week’s Enterprise.

We promise you’ll have a great time and a special day to come together as a community to remember, honor, and support Wyatt Spencer’s legacy and pay tribute to his classmates who so diligently carry their friend’s memory forward.  This scholarship was established to make some sense from a tragedy and to make a great loss serve some purpose.

Berne-Knox-Westerlo is not a wealthy school district, but it does have a wealth of talented and deserving students.  Please join us for a fun-filled day you won’t soon forget and an event you’ll want to attend year-after-year — we guarantee it!
