Thanks to all who helped with my Honor Flight

Grateful handshakes: Patriot Guard Rider Bud Munroe, left, shakes the hand of Syl Schiltz early Saturday morning before Munroe’s fellow Patriot Guard Riders escorted Schiltz and Howard Borden to the Albany International Airport. The Enterprise — Michael Koff

To the Editor:

I wish it possible to thank all who made me an honor veteran; we went on a Leatherstocking Honor Flight from Altamont Post 977 to the Albany airport.

The local police blocked off all side roads, and Route 20 to let our motorcade through, led by a motorcycle escort. We arrived at Albany International Airport with over 200 motorcycles in total and had a fine reception, led by the Leatherstocking Honor Flight volunteers.

After a fine flight to Baltimore on a 737 jet we took a bus to Washington, D.C. and the World War II Memorial with Bob Dole and many pictures. Then we went to the Marine Memorial that depicted raising the flag on Iwo Jima, then to the changing of the guard at Arlington and a ride through the cemetery.

American pride: Veteran Howard Borden, right, talks with Patriot Guard Rider Don Gray, left, alongside Borden’s son Brian, far right, and daughter in-law Eileen Borden, decked out in red, white, and blue Saturday. The Enterprise — Michael Koff

Then we went to the Koran War Memorial for more pictures. After that we had a good supper at a local restaurant and a trip by bus back to the airport for the flight back to Albany’s airport.

I wish to thank all who made this possible for me. To go on a Leatherstocking Honor Flight and see all the monuments, and my guardian and his family who saw me off and greeted me on  my return.
