People with disabilities have stories to tell

The Independent Living Center of the Hudson Valley has a new workshop series, “Claiming Our Power, Sharing our Stories.”

Under the guidance of Leslie Neustadt, a local poet, writer, and artist, the six-week series will provide people with disabilities the opportunity to write poetry and prose, and build collages, all reflecting their own experiences. The series will culminate in a reading and collage display in October in recognition of Disability Awareness Month.

All people with disabilities are welcome, and there is no charge to participate; materials are also included.  The series will take place at the center’s offices at 15 Third Street in Troy; the space is located on a bus line and is accessible to people with all disabilities.

This project is made possible in part through a Community Arts Grant, a program funded by the Arts Center of the Capital Region through the New York State Council on the Arts.

Interested individuals with disabilities should call Barbara Devore at 274-0701 for more information or to register.
