A Slingerlands man was sentenced on May 19 in Bethlehem Town Court for driving while impaired by alcohol.

Bchara C. Chadraoui, 31, was ordered by Judge Andrew Kirby to pay a $1,005 fine, is subject to a 90-day license suspension, and has to attend a Drinking Driver program and a Victim Impact Panel, according to a release from the Albany County District Attorney’s Office.

On March 1, 2014, at 3:01 a.m., Chadraoui was observed by Bethlehem Police driving his 2009 Volvo on Delaware Avenue and crossing over the double yellow line, putting the front driver-side of the car in the opposite lane of travel, the release said.

The car was then observed jerking back into the correct lane and traveling west, turning down Cherry Avenue and onto Union Avenue, the release said; Bethlehem Police activated emergency lights and sirens, but Chadraoui did not stop his vehicle for another block.

The officers detected an odor of alcohol but Chadraoui refused to take standard field sobriety tests; he was found to be operating the vehicle while his ability to do so was impaired due to the consumption of alcohol, said the release.

On April 15, Chadraoui was found guilty, after a bench trial, of driving while ability impaired by alcohol.
