Knox Nursery School wraps up one year and looks to the next

April started with a snow day, the first one all winter.  Who would have guessed the biggest snowfall of the season would come on April 4!  Nonetheless, the 3- and 4-year-olds made some very impressive robins for our all-seasons tree and to hang in the school’s entryway

The month continued with more signs of spring.  The 3-year-olds’ umbrellas with raindrops for “April Showers” and the year-olds’ tulips for “Bring May Flowers” are colorful reminders of the season.  Ladybugs and  really cool rainbows, crafted from multicolored cereal rounds, were added to our spring theme.

A special visitor later in the month helped the kids with dog safety. Our favorite yellow lab, Tiger Lily, and owner, Laura Stevens, demonstrated safe ways to approach dogs.  As with her past visits, Tiger Lily was a real trouper and we look forward to her visiting us again.

The end of the alphabet is fast approaching. Crafts of a “V”ase for flowers and a “W”orm in an apple, were fun reinforcements for these letters.

We ended the month with stories about the Earth and the things we can do to keep it clean.  The 3-year-olds upcycled paper towel rolls by painting small sections to be used for a special “Mom” event in May. The 4-year-olds began removing the paper from broken crayons. The pieces will eventually be melted down into different shapes to form multicolored crayons.

In addition, while working in groups of two or three, the 4-year-olds searched the playground area for “earthy” items including, grass, dirt, flowers, and twigs.  Once gathered, each group was given a letter from the word “Earth” to glue their findings to.  It is a great reminder of the things the Earth provides and the importance of taking care of it.

As this school year winds down, we are also looking toward the new school year.  We are happy to announce that Kelly Blain and Carli Elble will be joining the nursery school staff as teachers for our class of 2-year-olds.  As with our past classes for 2-year-olds, there is a maximum of 10 children. This class will meet Tuesdays and Fridays from 9 to 11:15 a.m.  We currently have five children enrolled.

Openings are also available in our classes for 3- and 4-year-olds.  For more information about our school program and to request an application, please call the school at 872-2015.
