Volunteer voices: Helderberg Ambulance answered 28 calls in March

During the month of March, the Helderberg Ambulance Squad was very busy with calls and classes.  There were 28 calls and 19 resulted in transports to the hospital.

Of the 19 transports, 16 were medical and three were trauma. One of the trauma calls was turned over to Med Flight. There were 12 calls in the Town of Berne and 16 calls in the Town of Knox.

Members Dave Harnett Sr. and Dave Tiffany participated in the multi-agency drill at Voorheesville’s high school. The drill was for an active shooter and was organized by the Albany County Sheriff’s Department. Great drill!

Charles Feldmann conducted a Certified Emergency Vehicle Operator class for the drivers at Helderberg Ambulance. CEVO, taken by all drivers, reviews safe driving practices at the wheel of an emergency vehicle.  Each driver must also pass an assessment at the conclusion of the class.

Thanks, Chuck, for a very informative class. Thanks also to all the drivers. Good job, everyone.

Mary O’Hanlon and Cynthia Johnson conducted a class in cardiopulmonary resuscitation for members of the squad. The instructors reviewed the new guidelines for CPR. Thanks so much for a very informative class.

Congratulations to PJ Stempel who completed the emergency medical technician class. In order to become an EMT, PJ had to complete the class, pass a practical test, and also pass a written test. Good job, PJ.

Dr. Donahue conducted the drill for the month reviewing the different types of shock.

Nina Ruiz has set up a Facebook page for Helderberg Ambulance. Be sure to check this out. Don’t forget to like us on Facebook.
