Voorheesville school nurses are supportive and caring

To the Editor:

I believe most parents don’t think too much about school nurses.  Over the years, they may get a phone call because their child has a fever, or isn’t feeling well, and need to pick up their child.

For those parents like myself, however, who have children that need to visit the school nurse on a daily basis, we think differently.  Lucky for my child, Voorheesville Central School District has exceptional nurses who have cared for my son while at school.  Being a diabetic, he has to visit the nurse daily.

No big deal, right? Wrong.

Nurse Mary Ann Jones at the middle and high school and nurse Colleen Brackett at the elementary school go/went above and beyond their duties to take the time to understand the needs and personality of my son. Also, they both have been extremely supportive of an anxious mother who is comforted by knowing her child is in good hands while at school.

I just learned that Nurse Jones is retiring.  I am, of course, happy for her, but at the same time I am sad that she, who knows my son so well, will no longer be there for him.

Most of us appreciate and recognize teachers who are an important part of our children’s lives; however, I want to take this opportunity to do the same for these two nurses who have been so supportive of and caring for my son.
