Hydroseeder will put plants in roadside ditches

ALBANY COUNTY — To help shoulder the burden of routine road ditch maintenance, the Albany County Soil and Water Conservation District has applied for and received funding to control soil erosion from road banks and road ditches in Albany County.

The project will reduce the amount of sediment, nutrients, and metals entering the water of Albany County by using a hydroseeder to establish vegetated road ditches.

The district will help town, village, city, and county highway departments when road projects are completed.  The intent is to make hydro-seeding a standard operating procedure in a road ditch or road reconstruction and paving operation to stabilize the banks and ditches.

The Conservation District is currently accepting bids for a new tow-behind hydroseeder.  Interested parties should contact the office for a bid packet.

Funding is provided from the Environmental Protection Fund as administered by the state’s Department of Environmental Conservation.
