St. John's

St. John’s Lutheran Church at 140 Maple Avenue in Altamont has an informal Sunday worship service at 8:30 a.m. and a traditional service at 11 a.m.

There is a special week of prayer for Christian Unity services scheduled for

Jan. 24, at St. John's Lutheran Church.

The members of St. John's will be joining Christians around the world in

praying for cooperation between churches where possible, and for love and

understanding in all cases. This year the congregation will highlight the

ecumenical partnership the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America has with

the United Methodist Church. Since 2009, these  two denominations have

recognized the validity of the other's ministries and sacraments. Guest

speaker at both the 8:30 a.m. and the 11 a.m. service will be Shirley Readdean, a certified lay speaker in the United Methodist Church. The theme is "Called to Proclaim the Mighty Acts of the

Lord," based on First Peter 2:9.

Sunday School starts at 9:45 a.m.
